Compu-Med’s Practical Nursing remedial course is open to people who have taken the NCLEX three consecutive times and not passed it or who have not practiced as a PN in five years and want to re-enter the field. 

This pathway is available for eligible applicants to strengthen their knowledge and skills in practical nursing. Once approved, they can retake the NCLEX and begin a nursing career after they pass the licensing exams. 

Main qualifications 

If you passed the NCLEX the first time and have an active license, this course is not for you. Those who took the test three times and did not pass, however, can apply for the remedial course. 

Some applicants may need to get approval from the Florida Board of Nursing. To get the letter, applicants should call 850-245-4125 or email info@floridasnursing.gov. Then this letter must be included with the school enrollment application. 

Other reasons why someone may need to enroll in the remedial course are that their license is no longer active and it has been five years since they’ve practiced as a practical nurse. The course provider will need to get authorization for the student to take clinicals. Students can usually begin taking the theory courses, though. 

Getting started

If you have received an order from the Florida Board of Nursing to take a remedial course or you met any of the qualifications above, you can submit two forms of government ID, your authorization letters, and the completed enrollment application to get started. 

Choose whether you want to take day or night sessions. This gives you control over your schedule. You can schedule your education around your other responsibilities. Day classes are 9am to 1pm, while night classes are 6pm to 10pm.

Once enrolled, you will take 10 modules of theory and knowledge. The topics covered will prepare you for a practical nursing career and to sit for the NCLEX. Each module is 8 hours. The clinicals vary from 8 to 24 hours and give hands-on experience with necessary nursing skills. Finish the program in 10 weeks, get an approval from the Florida Board of Nursing, then schedule the NCLEX.
