Patient Care Technicians work as home health aides, phlebotomists, and patient care assistants in many different medical settings. The focus of a patient care technician is, of course, patient care. Patient care technicians provide valuable care to the patients that they work with, and are an important part of the medical facilities where they work. 

Entry-level patient care technicians need to have training in medical procedures and patient relations. A good technician provides a safe, high-quality medical experience for their patients and gives great care. So, how do you become a patient care technician through Compu-Med vocational careers?

PCT Training 

Patient Care Technicians receive training that gives them the knowledge and skills they need to work as a patient care technician. The PCT Program is only 45 weeks long, or the equivalent of two college semesters. Students take a minimum of 30.5 semester credit hours. 

As a PCT student, you may learn how to work in a medical office with computer skills and office procedures. You also gain medical knowledge in anatomy and physiology, medical terminology, and microbiology. 

More specialized training may be in the home health aide course, the nursing procedures course, diet and nutrition, basic emergency care, and the Alzheimers and other dementia courses. You may also learn radiology, electrocardiography, and phlebotomy to give you more necessary medical skills. 

Getting started 

When you graduate, you may work as a Patient Care Technician. You must enroll into the program first. Taking that first step toward your PCT certificate will lead you toward your new career! 

You can start with our paperless application, found at https://compumed.edu/paperless-admissions/ then you will need to send your high school or GED transcripts to the info@compumed.edu. You will also need to submit your TEAS scores to info@compumed.edu. Information about the TEAS exam can be found at https://atitesting.com/teas/. 

Don’t forget to look into financial aid. Financial aid could include loans, scholarships, and grants. Make sure you know how to cover the cost of school. 

Then you will need to attend a new student orientation. Orientations can be done in person or online. Get to know the school and the expectations you will have as a student.
